Dakity Reef Moorings (Ensenada Honda)

18° 17.2′ N · 65° 16.9′ W · approximate

The cruisers' favorite corner of Ensenada Honda: Ensenada Dakity in the harbor's southwest, tucked behind the reef that guards the entrance, where you sit in clear, breezy water with the reef breaking to windward and the town a dinghy ride away.

Practical

Position is the OpenStreetMap label for Ensenada Dakity (node 368381512), checked to be in water. The Virgintino guide (about 2015) says this southwestern anchorage 'even with its practical caveats' is by far the favored one among cruisers, and the less draft you have, the further south you can go. It also says you cannot reach Ensenada Dakity from the outside (from Ensenada Malena to the south) except by dinghy: enter via the main Ensenada Honda channel. Some Ensenada Honda areas have free moorings (Virgintino); their condition and any fee are not documented in current sources, so inspect before trusting one and verify locally. The guide does not spell out the caveats; expect a longer dinghy ride to Dewey than from the northwest corner. Coast Pilot shoals near the entrance: Bajo Amarillo (least 7 ft), Bajo Grouper (4 ft), Bajo Snapper (6 ft).
