Great Harbour (Peter Island)

18° 21.4′ N · 64° 35.1′ W

A half-mile bight on Peter Island's north shore, deep close to shore with excellent holding, and the overflow bay when the resort moves boats out of rougher mooring fields.

Practical

Position is the OpenStreetMap 'Great Harbor' bay node. Coast Pilot 5: about 0.5 mile in extent, may be entered easily at any time, deep water close to shore, excellent holding. Noonsite (2024): a few moorings and an anchorage. Peter Island's marina manager (2025 to 2026 marinas.com replies) has sent reserved boats here when other bays were rough. History: the RMS Rhone was anchored here in October 1867 when the hurricane struck (Sail Caribbean Divers), and in the 1600s the Dutch built a fort at Great Harbour (Wikipedia). The replacement Willy T operated here in 2018 before returning to Norman Island. Expect to anchor in deep water: carry plenty of scope.

Best for

Good holding in deep water when the Bight is full
