Ton Sai Bay Anchorage (Phi Phi Don)
7° 44.1′ N · 98° 46.1′ E
Phi Phi's main harbour, on the south side of the isthmus under limestone cliffs, with the village, ferry pier, dive shops and the liveliest night ashore in the region. Secure in both monsoons.
Practical
Southeast Asia Pilot waypoint 07°44.054N 98°46.087E, 26 nm from Ao Chalong. Best spot is sand in about 10-12 m close enough to the fringing reef to swim from the boat. Keep to the west side on the approach. Charts show a drying rock east of the southwest headland, which the Pilot says does not exist; the real shoal is a patch about 4 m deep at extreme low tide. All the permanent moorings are private dive-boat moorings, even ones that look like government buoys, and the Pilot reports aggressive behaviour, so do not pick one up. Swinging room is limited: arrive toward the end of the day and leave before about 10am when the speedboats arrive. Avoid the east-side ferry jetty. At night, watch for floating lines and unlit longtails. Land the dinghy only at the water pier in front of the hospital at the west end of the beach. Park fee collected by rangers.
