Hin Dot (Chimney Rock)

7° 43.6′ N · 98° 46.1′ E · approximate

A group of steep pinnacles just outside Ton Sai Bay, rising to just below the surface from a sandy bottom at about 30 m, swarmed by snapper and home to resting nurse sharks.

Practical

Position approx: no published coordinate; placed at the mouth of Ton Sai Bay from the description 'just outside the main harbor of Phi Phi Don' (Scuba Diver Life) and 'outside Ton Sai Bay' (Private Scuba). Do not navigate by this point; the pinnacles come close to the surface, so keep clear under way and go with a local dive boat. Depth 5 to almost 30 m; three or four pinnacles; currents can be strong. Life: nurse and bamboo sharks, ghost pipefish, batfish, bearded scorpionfish, morays, turtles. Best visibility January to March (Private Scuba). Heavy ferry and speedboat traffic in the bay entrance.
