Phang Nga Bay Box Jellyfish / Stinger Warning
8° 12.0′ N · 98° 33.0′ E · approximate
Phang Nga Bay gets seasonal blooms of large jellyfish ('snotties') with a mild sting, and there are occasional reports of more dangerous stingers in the mangrove creeks.
Practical
Coordinate is a representative mid-bay point; the warning covers the whole bay. The Southeast Asia Pilot advises wearing a full rash guard when swimming near mangrove roots, and taking care in channels where currents run hard on spring tides. Carry vinegar in the first-aid kit, and get medical help quickly for severe stings; the nearest hospitals are on Koh Yao Noi and in Phuket and Phang Nga.
