Monkey Hill (Khao Toh Sae), Phuket Town
7° 53.8′ N · 98° 23.7′ E
A wooded hill behind Phuket Town, topped by radio masts, where hundreds of long-tailed macaques gather on the road. It is a steady 1.7 km uphill walk past the tiger statues of the Poh Tae Toh Sae Shrine.
Practical
Coordinate is the Khao Toh Sae viewpoint (OSM); the summit is at 7.8989 N, 98.3955 E. Phuket 101 (2026): the road starts opposite the provincial hall, past the old Phuket prison; motorbikes are no longer allowed up, so park and walk about 1.7 km. Views from the top are limited. The macaques are unpredictable and can bite: do not feed them by hand, keep bags and pockets closed, and keep strollers away. A man in a pickup often feeds them around noon. Combine with Old Phuket Town and Khao Rang the same morning.
Best for
A walk with monkeys on a town day
