Maya Bay Annual Closure (Aug–Sep)

7° 40.7′ N · 98° 45.9′ E

Every year Maya Bay closes to boats and landings for two months during the southwest monsoon so the reef, beach and coastal vegetation can recover.

Practical

2026 closure: August 1 to September 30, reopening October 1 (Time Out, September 29, 2026; Tisland Travel). The reopening date can shift for weather; the DNP confirms it near the end of September. Pileh Lagoon, Viking Cave, Bamboo Island and the snorkel spots stay on day-tour itineraries during the closure, and boats can pass by Maya. The bay was fully closed from 2018 to early 2022. Even when open, swimming is prohibited.
