Koh Pu (Crab Island) Snorkel, Kata
7° 49.2′ N · 98° 17.2′ E
The small rocky island in the middle of Kata Bay, ringed by reef with parrotfish, sergeant majors and triggerfish. It gives the best snorkelling at Kata and is a dinghy ride from the anchorage.
Practical
Coordinate is the OSM island centroid. Rocks awash lie in the channel between Koh Pu and the headland, so approach by dinghy, not keelboat (SEAP). A longtail costs about 1,500 THB/hour (Phuket 101). Watch for longtails and jet skis near the reef. Snorkelling is only good Nov-Apr; the monsoon waves make it too rough.
