Kata Beach Anchorage
7° 48.9′ N · 98° 17.8′ E
The south-east corner of Kata Beach, home of the Phuket King's Cup Regatta, with Koh Pu (Crab Island) in the bay, a busy beach road and The Boathouse on the sand.
Practical
8-10 m on sand in the south-east corner (SEAP). The passage between Koh Pu and the headland has rocks awash; do not transit it without local knowledge. Beyond Resort (formerly Kata Beach Resort, 400+ rooms) has co-hosted the King's Cup since 1998; Club Med is behind the beach. Restaurants, bars and shops are within walking distance, and a public road runs the length of the beach. Surf schools set up from May to Oct, when it is no anchorage.
Best for
Regatta week and a lively beach town ashore
Season
Nov-Apr; exposed to SW swell May-Oct
