Outer Islands Self-Sufficiency (Provision, Fuel and Water on Mahé)
4° 37.4′ S · 55° 27.2′ E · approximate
Beyond the granitic Inner Islands there is no public fuel dock, water point, shop or chandlery for yachts. Everything you need for an Amirantes or southern-atoll trip has to leave Mahé with you.
Practical
Victoria has three or four good supermarkets (imported goods are not cheap) and a wet market for fresh produce; repairs and haul-out are also in Victoria (Hacking, SSCA guide). The last yacht water points on the way out are the main piers at Baie Ste Anne (Praslin) and La Digue, for a small fee (SCR 60 in the Moorings eGuide, 2024 edition; verify locally); diesel is at the Mahé fuel docks (around EUR 1.34 a litre in the same guide). The outer islands are private or run by IDC, which levies fees and must give permission in advance in Victoria. Their settlements are supplied by IDC flights and a supply barge from Mahé roughly twice a month (Desroches), so they have nothing spare to sell. Plan on full tanks, jerry cans and a watermaker for a 2-4 week circuit, and carry spares, medical kit and gas for the whole trip. Coordinate is approximate: Victoria city centre.
