Northwest Monsoon Season (Dec-Apr)
4° 37.4′ S · 55° 27.2′ E · approximate
From December to April the wind swings northwest, lighter at 10-15 knots and peaking in January, with warm humid weather, intermittent rain squalls and stronger gusts from December to March; Mahé's east and southeast bays become the sheltered side.
Practical
Approximate: pinned at Victoria. NW winds often strengthen at daybreak (The Moorings). Anse Royale becomes usable overnight; north-facing park anchorages get exposed. The Ile Cachée dive site is only usable in this season (SPGA). April and November are transition months with calm, sometimes windless spells, flat seas and clear water: good for snorkelling and diving, less good for sailing.
Best for
East-coast anchorages, diving and calm transition weeks
Season
Dec-Apr; calms in Apr and Nov
