Marie-Louise Island Anchorage (Northwest)
6° 10.5′ S · 53° 8.4′ E · approximate
The only safe anchorage at Marie-Louise lies off the north-west coast, opposite the small settlement on this low, sandy 53 ha island in the southern Amirantes.
Practical
Wikipedia says the settlement on the NW coast sits 'opposite the only safe anchorage'; no depth is published, so sound in. A coral reef on the E side breaks (Pub. 171). An 1846 account recommends chain cable here. Landing by boat is difficult on the steep, rocky coast. The prison closed in 2017, and IDC and ICS now plan the island as a bird-observation island; get IDC permission before going ashore. Coordinate is approximate: off the NW shore of the OpenStreetMap outline.
Best for
