Boudeuse Cay Masked Boobies
6° 5.3′ S · 52° 50.0′ E
A one-hectare sandstone platform with no trees and no introduced plants, one of the most pristine coral cays anywhere, with about 4,000 pairs of masked boobies and a brown-booby colony rediscovered in 2013.
Practical
The farthest SW danger on the Amirante Bank (Pub. 171): 4.6 m high, with 8.2 m 1.5 nm E. Heavy swell makes landing difficult even in calm weather; the wreck of a Portuguese ship, believed to be the Santo Antonio (1589), lies here. Protected bird reserve and IDC conservation lease: no landing without permission. Coordinate from OpenStreetMap.
Best for
A pristine seabird cay at the edge of the bank
