Somali Piracy Advisory History (2009-2012)
5° 58.0′ S · 53° 3.0′ E · approximate
In 2009-2012 Somali piracy reached Seychelles waters: the British cruising yacht Lynn Rival was seized 'off the archipelago of the Seychelles' on 23 October 2009 and her crew held for over a year, and piracy hit Seychelles tourism and fishing.
Practical
The Assumption clearance rules still date from that period: every vessel in the EEZ once needed armed security, now reduced to at least two armed guards aboard for cleared cruise vessels (2018). SIF warns that piracy has restricted boat travel and advises checking embassy advice before planning an Aldabra trip. Before any passage beyond the Seychelles Bank, check current UKMTO / Maritime Security Centre Horn of Africa guidance and Noonsite security reports. Coordinate is approximate: the Wikipedia centre point of the Outer Islands.
