Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) in the Calamianes

11° 55.2′ N · 120° 7.2′ E · approximate

From about June to October the habagat brings SW-W winds, rain and swell into anchorages that were flat all winter, and the typhoon risk rises late in the season.

Practical

Coordinate approx: central Coron Bay, representing the group. Hackingfamily: habagat about June through October. Exposures they document: Bulalacao Island and Ditaytayan are exposed to SW and W; strong west winds push chop into Busuanga Bay's outer bay (move to the inner bays); San Pedro Cove on Linapacan stays protected except from the NE; Halsey Bay and Colaylayan are protected all round. The Coron Town Anchorage faces SW-W across Coron Bay: in the habagat consider Busuanga Bay instead (no source documents swell figures for the town anchorage itself, so judge on the day). Cruising World (2025) sat out a low with 25-30 kn and torrential rain in Port Luyucan just north of Coron town (narrow entrance, sticky mud, near-360 degree protection).
