Apo Island West Anchorage (Sangat)
11° 58.8′ N · 120° 4.8′ E
A deep sand anchorage in the channel between Sangat Island and little Apo Island, 9 nm from Coron town, with a WWII sub-chaser to snorkel just across the channel: the practical yacht anchorage for Sangat.
Practical
Hackingfamily: 11 58.83N 120 04.85E in 64 ft (20 m) sand; no approach hazards but the channel is deep close to the reef, and there is extensive reef on the east side. Ocelot anchored a little north of earlier boats because the bottom further south has more coral. About 0.4 nm south, across the channel, a beach sign marks the sub-chaser wreck (see East Tangat Gunboat Wreck); small local moorings there are not suitable for yachts and tour boats use them by day. Cell (2022): Globe 2G, no Smart.
Best for
Quiet overnight near the wrecks
