Morazan Maru Wreck

11° 58.4′ N · 120° 2.7′ E

The wreck sold by many Coron shops as the Morazan Maru: a British-built 1908 freighter-liner seized in Shanghai in 1941, lying on her starboard side in 25 m with her port hull at 12-16 m.

Practical

Scubatech gives GPS 11 58 21N 120 02 39E for 'Morazan / Olympia Maru'. Identity is genuinely uncertain: Scubatech notes the real Morazan Maru may have been sunk in Manila Bay and this hull may be another Taiei Maru, and starfish.ch's 'Ekkai Maru (formerly Olympia Maru / formerly Morazon)' sits at a different position (see Olympia Maru Wreck). Engines salvaged in the 1960s; boilers and holds give easy penetration. Depth 12-25 m, suitable for Open Water divers in mild current.

Best for

Easy wreck with swim-throughs
