Halsey Harbor South Arm Typhoon Anchorage (Culion)
11° 43.3′ N · 119° 58.3′ E
The head of Halsey Harbor's south arm, a narrow, shoaling sound with total all-round protection that cruisers and Webb rate as one of the Calamianes' best typhoon shelters.
Practical
Arnak (2013): 11 43.259N 119 58.283E in 2 m mud at the end of the channel; enter Halsey Harbor by the south channel (plenty of depth, soundings shoal gradually), keep to the centre all the way up and anchor anywhere to the head of the sound. The rest of Halsey Harbor is very open and deep: Lifelines (2008) needed 35 m behind Rhodes Island; Arnak (2010) found 18 m good holding off two beaches at 11 45.713N 119 57.487E. Valhalla (2008) anchored at 11 43.955N 119 57.614E with a fresh-water source across the bay at 11 43.68N 119 57.75E and bought live prawns. Webb (2009): the south arm is a particularly good typhoon shelter. See also Halsey Bay Anchorage (South Culion).
