Dicabaito Bay Anchorage (South Culion)

11° 39.2′ N · 119° 57.6′ E

A very scenic, very sheltered bay in southern Culion whose rocky, either-too-deep-or-too-shallow bottom has defeated several cruisers.

Practical

Shanghaied: 11 39.2147N 119 57.6257E in 22 m, flat, good shelter, but the chain hooked round a bommie and needed a dive to free. Elizabeth Jane II (2014): rocky ground and poor holding near 11 39.113N 119 57.516E after two attempts, though extremely sheltered even in the SW monsoon (their position may be offset). Sloepmouche (2017) found depths too deep (70+ ft) or too shallow in both the north and south bays and moved on to Dipalian. Webb (2009, as Di Cabito): good protection in most weather, strong tidal streams, very beautiful. Small village with kids in canoes. Use a trip line.

Best for

SW-monsoon shelter if you can get the anchor to hold

Season

Sheltered in SW monsoon
