Linapacan Island Anchorage (San Miguel)

11° 29.4′ N · 119° 52.4′ E · approximate

Anchor behind the long reef off San Miguel, Linapacan's small municipal town, with a deepwater pass full of feather stars, barrel sponges and fans to snorkel and macaques on the beach.

Practical

Position approx: placed about 0.15 nm ESE of the San Miguel pier (OpenStreetMap) from Cruising World's description; confirm on your chart. Cruising World (2025): good holding in 13 ft (4 m) sand behind the long reef in front of San Miguel; a moderate current runs through, so they set a stern anchor to avoid lying wind-against-swell; no phone coverage in the harbour, but Wi-Fi at a small store just down from the main jetty; land the dinghy near the jetty. The Coast Guard here held them in port during a small-craft advisory and they waited a week for weather. Ferries to Coron, Manila and Palawan use the San Miguel pier. The Linapacan Marine Protected Area reef is mapped just NE of the pier: no anchoring on coral.
