Punta El Pailebote and El Mono (Espíritu Santo North-East Coast)

24° 30.3′ N · 110° 18.4′ W · approximate

The prominent north-east headland of Espíritu Santo, with the El Mono fishing grounds in the open bight to its north-west - the turning mark for anyone exploring the island's wild, cave-riddled east side.

Practical

Coordinate is approximate: read off the georeferenced zoning map (page 9) of the CONANP Espíritu Santo park rules compendium hosted by Club Cruceros; the same method reproduces the verified positions of Los Islotes and Isla Gallo to within about 100-200 m. Point placed at the tip of Punta El Pailebote; the El Mono hook-and-line fishing polygon lies about 1.7 km NW (map-derived 24.5187 N, 110.3173 W). Bahía La Salinita, the established east-side anchorage, lies just south of the point, and the east-side sea caves are along the coast to the north-west. Exposed to northers and easterly seas - pass in settled conditions and give the headland room. Small-boat anchorage is allowed in the El Mono polygon, but large-boat anchorage is not. Inside Archipiélago Espíritu Santo National Park: every person aboard needs the daily CONANP bracelet (225 MXN/person/day on the CONANP page) or an annual Conservation Passport.
