Playa Coral Snorkel (Isla Grande)

17° 40.6′ N · 101° 39.4′ W

The island's snorkeling beach: craggy rocks, live coral and big schools of reef fish in a cove on the south side of Isla Ixtapa. A footpath across the island links it to the main Cuachalalate beach.

Practical

Position is the OpenStreetMap outline of Playa Coral. Spanish Wikipedia names Playa Coral as the beach for swimmers, divers and snorkelers on the nearby reefs. Roads Less Traveled found coral and large fish schools at the southernmost cove but only about 8 ft of visibility (Dec 2010). Land the dinghy at Cuachalalate and walk the island path, or snorkel from the anchorage. Water taxis to the island leave from Playa Linda (100 pesos per Spanish Wikipedia; verify locally). Expect day-tripper crowds 11am-4pm in high season.
