Mazatlán Old Harbor Anchorage (Stone Island)
23° 10.9′ N · 106° 25.1′ W · approximate
The traditional anchorage inside Mazatlán's commercial harbor, tucked behind the El Crestón breakwater and opposite Stone Island, within dinghy reach of the old town, the Port Captain and the ferry terminal. It's cheap and central, but you share it with freighters, cruise ships and the La Paz ferries.
Practical
Anchor well clear of the marked ship channel. Expect wakes and channel traffic day and night, and show an anchor light. Noonsite: the Port Captain charges an anchorage fee, and dinghies can be left at the yacht agencies ashore. The small Club Náutico just inside the breakwater has few berths and gives no hurricane protection. Pangas run to Stone Island from the Playa Sur embarcadero. A 2022 cruiser account notes the anchorage sits along a busy channel used by freighters and cruise ships. Coordinate is derived from the OpenStreetMap harbor outline and is a nominal spot in the harbor, not a surveyed anchorage. Confirm the current designated anchoring area with the Port Captain on VHF 16.
