Mazatlán Port of Entry

23° 11.6′ N · 106° 25.4′ W

Mazatlán is a full Mexican port of entry and, for boats arriving from Baja or from abroad, the usual first stop on the mainland. Immigration, Customs (Aduana) and the Port Captain all sit in the old-harbor district on the south side of the city.

Practical

Noonsite (2023): yachts can anchor off in the old harbor and leave the dinghy at one of the yacht agencies ashore; the Immigration and Port Captain offices are farther up the harbor, just past the cruise ship terminal. The Port Captain charges an anchorage fee and may insist that clearance be handled through a marina. Marina El Cid and Marina Mazatlán both offer a clearance service, and El Cid lists on-site Port Captain check-in for transients. Boats on short stays can clear in and out at the same time. Getting a Temporary Import Permit (TIP) here as your first Mexican port is reported to be straightforward. Coordinate is the OpenStreetMap-tagged immigration office in the old-harbor district; ask your marina for the current office before walking over. Fees: verify locally.
