Isla de la Piedra (Stone Island) Beach
23° 11.2′ N · 106° 24.5′ W
A long, palm-backed beach on the peninsula across the harbor from Old Mazatlán, lined with palapa seafood restaurants. It's a laid-back escape from the city, a few minutes away by water taxi.
Practical
Water taxis (pangas) cross from the Embarcadero Playa Sur (about 23.1873, -106.4188) and the Embarcadero Isla de la Piedra (23.2057, -106.4109). El Velero is a seafood restaurant on the island; Wikivoyage lists it as open 8 am–6 pm daily. From an anchored boat, land at the embarcadero inside the harbor rather than through the surf. Farther south along the same road (km 10) is the Estrella del Mar olive ridley sea-turtle sanctuary. Coordinate is El Velero restaurant's location from Wikivoyage.
Best for
Seafood lunch on the sand and a break from the city
