El Faro Lighthouse Hike (Mazatlán)
23° 10.7′ N · 106° 25.6′ W
A steep stair-climb up Cerro del Crestón to one of the highest natural-elevation lighthouses in the world, 157 m above the sea. From the top you look over the whole city, the harbor entrance and the offshore islands.
Practical
The trail is 745 m long with 334 steps (Wikipedia). Wikivoyage lists hours of 6 am to 5:45 pm. Go early, because it's hot and exposed, and a visitor died of heat stroke on the climb in 2022. Bring water. At the top there's a glass-floored skywalk (opened 2018), and the Farolesa zip line (inaugurated December 2024) runs 1,265 m to Cerro del Vigía. The light has a 30-nm range. The trailhead is next to the Club Náutico and the old-harbor anchorage, a short dinghy ride for boats anchored there.
