Isla Tiburón (Seri Territory, Restricted)
28° 59.3′ N · 112° 22.4′ W
Mexico's largest island (1,201 km²) is the sacred homeland of the Comcaac (Seri) people, an ecological reserve since 1963 run by the Seri government with the federal authorities — not a place to land on a whim.
Practical
Two permits are required for day hiking or overnight stays: one from the Seri Governor's office in Punta Chueca and one from the islands (CONANP) office in Bahía de Kino. Uninhabited except for military posts on the east and south shores. Endemic mule deer and coyote subspecies; introduced bighorn sheep (managed hunting). The mainland channel, Canal del Infiernillo, has strong tidal currents and shoals.
Best for
Understanding access before visiting the midriff
