Isla Pajarera Anchorage (Chamela)

19° 33.4′ N · 105° 6.6′ W · approximate

The northernmost and largest of the Chamela islands, a bird island ringed by rocks where boats tuck in for a day stop away from the beach surf. Boobies and pelicans roost on the island and turtles cruise the clear water around it.

Practical

Position approximate: placed about 150 m off the southeast (lee) side of the island using the OpenStreetMap outline of Isla Pajarera; no surveyed anchorage position was found. The islands are part of the Santuario Islas de la Bahía de Chamela protected area (designated in the early 2000s), so treat wildlife and nesting birds with care, take nothing and keep landings brief. Water near the islands is shallow and clear, good for snorkeling when there is no red tide. Rocky shoreline; approach in good light. Exposed to swell; generally a daytime stop with the overnight anchorage off Pérula.
