Isla Cocinas Snorkel

19° 33.0′ N · 105° 6.5′ W · approximate

Isla Cocinas, just south of Pajarera, has a small beach and rocky fringes where colorful reef fish, pelicans and boobies share the shallows. It is one of the two most-visited islands in the bay and a favorite dinghy destination from the Pérula anchorage.

Practical

Position approximate: the northeast shore of the island from the OpenStreetMap outline of Isla Cocinas. About 2 nm south of the Pérula anchorage, an easy dinghy ride in calm conditions. There are no services on any island: bring water and snacks. Sanctuary rules apply: no take, no disturbing birds. Visibility collapses during red tide (common some winters); check the water before you swim. Fishermen's pangas run tourists out from Pérula.
