Isla Isabela South Anchorage
21° 50.6′ N · 105° 53.0′ W · approximate
The rocky cove on Isla Isabela's south shore, Bahía Tiburoneros, by the fish camp and the research station. It's the anchoring area the park's management rules designate for sailboats and yachts, and the guidebooks' traditional choice, though many cruisers prefer the east side.
Practical
Exposed to the south: any southerly swell makes it very uncomfortable. Many underwater rock heads can foul the chain, so pick your spot carefully in good light and buoy the anchor. In 2010 the cove looked too rolly to one crew and didn't match their guidebook chartlets. This is where the dinghy lands for the fish camp and trails. Coordinate is derived from the OpenStreetMap island outline at the mouth of the south cove and is not a surveyed spot. Park rules: CONANP Rule 40 (DOF, 2006) sets the anchoring area for ships, sailboats and yachts off Bahía Tiburoneros, and the cove's beach is the island's only authorized landing. Under the 2024 marine-park decree, use a mooring buoy if one is installed. Otherwise anchor without damaging the seabed or coral. No hull cleaning, fueling, repairs or bilge pumping. Leave the inner cove to the fishermen's pangas.
Best for
Settled northerly conditions, or a quick stop near the landing
