Hurricane Season (Mazatlán and Nayarit)
22° 30.0′ N · 106° 0.0′ W · approximate
The eastern Pacific hurricane season brings tropical storms and hurricanes up this coast, along with the hot, humid rainy season. Most cruisers leave the area or haul out by early summer.
Practical
The official eastern Pacific season runs May 15 to November 30 (NOAA NHC). Activity peaks in late August, and most storms form between late June and early October. After Hurricane Lidia (October 2023) and other recent storms, Noonsite warned of debris, missing navigation marks, damaged docks and limited berths at San Blas and Mazatlán. Noonsite says Marina El Cid and Club Náutico are not hurricane holes, while Marina Mazatlán and the Isla Mazatlán Golden basin give much more protection. The Mazatlán yards offer haul-out and dry storage. The rainy season runs June to October, with high humidity and heavy downpours; the dry season is November to May. Monitor NHC advisories daily from May. Coordinate is nominal.
