Cabeza Negra Anchorage (Michoacán)
18° 35.6′ N · 103° 43.0′ W · approximate
The first overnight stop for many boats heading south from Manzanillo: a tiny anchorage tucked beside the Cabeza Negra (Black Head) headland and a private, gated community, with nothing ashore but surf and jungle.
Practical
Position approximate: placed about 0.5 km southwest of GeoNames' Black Head Point / Cabeza Negra headland (18.597 N 103.7115 W) in open water; no published waypoint was found, so check the chart and radar before closing the coast. Roads Less Traveled anchored here in December 2010 and found it tiny; a 1985 Latitude 38 report called Cabeza Negra an excellent anchorage. Exposed to the southwest - a fair-weather stop. Landing is not encouraged (private, guarded community). Fishing en route is good: a 34-inch yellowfin came aboard on a hand line just off here.
Best for
A one-night stop on the Manzanillo-Zihuatanejo run
Season
Nov-May only; untenable in S-SW swell
