Manzanillo Sailfish Fishing
19° 4.2′ N · 104° 21.0′ W · approximate
Manzanillo calls itself the 'sailfish capital of the world', and its sportfishing fleet runs out for sailfish, marlin, dorado, tuna and roosterfish; a giant sailfish statue presides over the downtown waterfront.
Practical
Position approximate: the mouth of Manzanillo Bay, where the fishing fleet heads offshore. Everyone aboard a boat carrying fishing gear needs a Mexican fishing permit (see the Mexico area file). Billfish, roosterfish and dorado are reserved for sport fishing within 50 nm — release billfish. Local charter operators run trips from the Las Hadas marina and downtown. A cruiser hooked a giant marlin between Cabo and Tenacatita in 2008.
