York Island

17° 3.2′ N · 61° 40.2′ W

A small rocky islet off the south-east tip of Antigua that marks the southern entrance to Nonsuch Bay; a seabird nesting site and, since 2008, home to a reintroduced population of Antiguan racers.

Practical

Position is the OpenStreetMap islet. Navigationally it is the key mark for entering Nonsuch Bay from the south: pass about 200 yards to windward of York Island and keep Green Island to starboard (AMG). The York Bank passage becomes dangerous in heavy swell (Yachting Monthly). Landing is not encouraged: seabird research islet (NEMMA).
