Winter North Swell (St Kitts & Nevis)

17° 15.0′ N · 62° 42.0′ W · approximate

From roughly December to March, swell from Atlantic winter storms wraps around both islands' leeward coasts, turning the open roadsteads at Basseterre, Sandy Point, Pinney's Beach and White House Bay rolly.

Practical

Position is a representative point. ActiveCaptain reviewers note that White House Bay is exposed to the north, that a north swell can creep into Pinney's Beach and Charlestown, and that the rocks at the Sandy Bay reef entrance break in north swells of 8 ft or more. Majors Bay is the best shelter from northerly swell; Cades Bay (Nevis) escapes the SE swell that reaches Charlestown. Watch the forecast for swell height and period before choosing an overnight spot.
