Hurricane Season (St Kitts & Nevis)

17° 15.0′ N · 62° 40.8′ W · approximate

June to November is hurricane season, and the islands have been hit hard: Georges (1998) caused about US$458 million in damage, Lenny (1999) threw waves inland on both islands, and Omar (2008) wrecked the Four Seasons beachfront on Nevis.

Practical

Position is a representative point between the islands. There is no hurricane hole: most cruising yachts leave the area for the season (noforeignland); St Kitts Marine Works stores boats ashore in keel holes and many owners leave them strapped down there. Wikipedia lists hurricanes (July-October) as the main natural hazard and the rainy season as May to November, wettest in October. Christophe Harbour's dredged lagoon is the most enclosed water - ask the marina about its storm plan. Monitor NHC and the local NEMA.
