Ballast Bay Anchorage

17° 14.4′ N · 62° 39.6′ W

A big, well-protected bay at the southeastern end of St Kitts with plenty of swinging room and good holding almost everywhere - the quieter twin of White House Bay and the gateway to the Christophe Harbour lagoon.

Practical

Good holding just about everywhere (The Moorings); noforeignland users rate it 4.3/5 - calm and holding well in varied winds. No moorings, no facilities for yachts and a stony beach. The dredged entrance channel to the Christophe Harbour lagoon leaves from the NE corner of the bay - keep clear of it and of its lit lateral marks. Watch the rocks between Ballast Bay and White House Bay (marked by a stick about a foot above water - see the obstruction entry). Dinghy into the lagoon and tie to the yacht-sized pontoon, or use the marina's free dinghy dock; the road is about a quarter-mile walk. No buses this far south; hitching to Basseterre is said to be easy. Free (slow) Wi-Fi from Christophe Harbour reaches the anchorage. A popular local fishing spot; good snorkelling along the edges.
