Swell & Wind Season (Les Saintes)

15° 52.1′ N · 61° 35.1′ W · approximate

Les Saintes are drier than neighbouring Guadeloupe and Dominica, with the easterly trades blowing across the low isthmus of Terre-de-Haut; the bay is sheltered from the trades but chronically rolly from ferry wake, and the windward beaches and southern sites feel every Atlantic swell.

Practical

Position approx: the main mooring field. Climate: dry season (carême) roughly December/January-April/June, wet season (hivernage) June/July-November/December (tourism board; Wikipedia). Cruisers repeatedly describe the town field as rolly even without ferries (2014, 2019). The dive centre notes calm seas and good visibility in August-September, and only dives exposed sites such as L'Aquarium in calm seas. Pain de Sucre and Cabrit fields are calmer alternatives. Accelerated wind and steep seas in the Canal des Saintes and Dominica Passage (see passages).
