Saba Bank Eastern Ridge (dive and fishing zone)

17° 32.3′ N · 63° 20.3′ W · approximate

The live-coral rim of the Saba Bank: a 48 km ridge of coral, sand and rock at 11-35 m along the bank's eastern edge, with the shallowest water on the whole atoll - the bluewater frontier for fishing and expedition diving south-west of Saba.

Practical

Approximate: derived from Wikipedia's 'least reported depth 7.3 m about 15 km southwest of Mount Scenery' (projected 15 km SW of the summit); the ridge runs roughly north-south from there. Wikipedia: ridge depths 11-35 m, coral sand at 22-37 m to the west, edge drops abruptly at about 55 m, with sinkholes in the limestone floor. The bank is a no-anchoring Particularly Sensitive Sea Area (2012) and part of the Yarari Marine Mammal and Shark Sanctuary; foreign commercial vessels need a licence to fish (SCF). Recreational fishing rules are not published on the SCF page - check with the Saba Bank Management Unit before fishing. No public mooring system or regular recreational dive trips were found online; ask Sea Saba or SCF about guided trips. Open ocean: seas over the edge can be confused, no shelter, plan as an offshore day trip from Fort Bay.
