Third Encounter & Eye of the Needle

17° 37.5′ N · 63° 16.3′ W · approximate

Saba's famous Pinnacles: volcanic seamounts rising from the deep ocean floor to tops around 30 m (100 ft) - Third Encounter is the jumping-off point for the Eye of the Needle, a slender spire rising from the blue, with groupers, jacks, turtles and frequent reef sharks.

Practical

Approximate area only: placed offshore southwest of Ladder Bay, where Saba's Pinnacles dive area lies; the exact dive-buoy positions are not published, so do not use this as a waypoint. Tops at about 30 m (100 ft) per SCF - these are deep, advanced dives done only with a licensed operator (Sea Saba lists Third Encounter, Twilight Zone, Outer Limits, Mt Michel and Shark Shoals in this group). Nitrox and dive computer planning recommended; the hyperbaric chamber at Fort Bay is the nearest recompression facility.
