The Ladder (Saba)

17° 37.8′ N · 63° 15.2′ W

About 800 steps of stone and concrete dropping from The Gap down to Ladder Bay - for three centuries the only way cargo (famously including a piano) and people got onto Saba, hauled up by hand past a lonely cliff-top customs house.

Practical

Coordinates are the trailhead signpost on The Gap Road between The Bottom and Well's Bay (OpenStreetMap). Strenuous: about 1 hour round trip down and back up (SCF). Dry forest with mahogany and cinnamon trees and big views over Ladder Bay - spot your boat on the moorings. The bottom 2 m were badly damaged by Hurricane Maria in 2017, so this is a walk, not a dinghy landing. Bring water; hot by midday. Check the SCF monthly trail advisory for closures.
