Fort Bay Moorings

17° 36.9′ N · 63° 15.0′ W · approximate

The east-side designated anchorage zone in front of Fort Bay Harbour - not pretty, but the better choice in strong northeasterlies and a short dinghy ride to customs, fuel, the dive shops and the road up to The Bottom.

Practical

Approximate: placed about 200 m south-southeast of the Fort Bay Harbour basin (OpenStreetMap way 414327967), in the zone the park describes as 'in front of Fort Bay Harbour'; check the park's mooring map before picking up a ball. Noonsite reports conflict on overnighting here (2019: the park did not recommend it; 2024: overnights possible) - ask the Harbour Master on VHF 16. Better protection than the west coast in strong NE winds; the west-side zone is better in SE winds. S or SE swell or wind makes these moorings tricky (2024 report). Yellow visitor moorings only; red and white balls are reserved for dive boats.

Best for

Convenient for clearance and errands; shelter in strong NE trades

Season

Untenable in S or SE swell
