Mamora Bay Anchorage (St James's Club)
17° 0.8′ N · 61° 44.2′ W · approximate
A small, very well protected bay on the south-east coast, entered past Mamora Reef, with a quiet anchorage beside the St James's Club resort and its little marina.
Practical
Pin is the OpenStreetMap named-bay node, in the bay south of Mamora Bay Beach. Approach (Marinas.com): the outer channel is unmarked; from a waypoint about half a mile outside, N17 00.416 W061 43.589, steer 320° true into the bay to meet the harbour buoy north-west of Sober Island; the entrance channel carries at least 11 ft. Mamora Reef, a coral ledge, runs about 0.7 nm north-east from Sober Island across the mouth of Willoughby Bay, so boats arriving from Willoughby Bay or the east must keep clear of it; from the west, mind Standfast Point about half a mile south-west of the approach. The St James's Club, on the east side of the bay, has 15 slips with water, ice and phone; there are few shops and no customs, so clear in at English Harbour first. Enter only in good light. DiveCarib's Sunken Rock dive site lies close by.
Best for
A secluded, sheltered night east of English Harbour
Season
Best in settled trades; good light needed for the reef approach
