Carpenter Rock Trail

17° 0.1′ N · 61° 45.1′ W

A 1.5-mile coastal trail from the south end of Galleon Beach past the ruined half-moon battery of Fort Charlotte at the harbour entrance, along the cliff edge to the Mermaid's Pool rock ledge, then up to the Shirley Heights road and the Blockhouse.

Practical

Position is the OpenStreetMap 'Carpenter's Trail' route. From the anchorage, land at Galleon Beach and walk to its southern end. Fort Charlotte is used by race committees as the start line for several annual races. The cliff path has no railing: take care. After the Mermaid's Pool, take the short shaded path back to Galleon Beach, or climb on (steep) to the road opposite the Jones Valley Trail and walk down a few hundred metres to the Blockhouse ruins (Antigua Marine Guide). Wear proper shoes and bring water, a hat and sunscreen. One of the National Park trails around English Harbour.

Best for

A dramatic cliff walk straight from the Freeman's Bay anchorage

Season

Early morning or late afternoon; avoid midday heat
