Hell's Gate Island

17° 8.5′ N · 61° 43.3′ W

An eerie islet of eroded rock about 400 yards south-west of Great Bird Island, with an underwater passage through the island and a hole to climb up through to the top.

Practical

Position is the OpenStreetMap islet. ABYMA: tie the dinghy in the small cove; underwater to the right is a passage through the island that a very competent swimmer can swim (about 25 ft), then a hands-and-knees climb through a rocky hole to the top. Only in calm conditions; never alone. A regular stop for North Sound tours (NEMMA).

Best for

An adventurous swim-through for strong swimmers
