Gallows Bay Moorings (dive and private only)

17° 28.6′ N · 62° 59.3′ W · approximate

The buoys you will see off the Lower Town harbour are not for visiting yachts: they are dive-boat moorings, private local-boat moorings and tug moorings - knowing that saves a wasted approach and a fine.

Practical

Approximate: representative point off the harbour about 200 m west-northwest of the OpenStreetMap 'Gallows Baai' label; individual buoy positions are not published. Noonsite (June 2025): there are no mooring balls for visiting yachts; balls near the harbour are private (will not hold a yacht's weight) or dive-only; one local mooring carries a floating fish cage; the small tugs' moorings have 20 m+ of floating line. Older guidebooks describe 12 yellow yacht moorings laid by the Marine Park - cruisers have reported they are gone, so do not plan on them. Anchor in the designated zone instead and stay at least 30 m from any buoy. Dive moorings are used by the Lower Town dive centres; all diving in the park must be with a local dive shop (STENAPA).
