Breakwater Anchorage (Gallows Bay, Statia)

17° 28.6′ N · 62° 59.3′ W · approximate

The southern corner of Statia's roadstead, tucked in behind the harbour breakwater at Gallows Bay - the spot to move to when a southerly swell makes the open Oranje Baai anchorage roll.

Practical

Approximate: placed about 180 m west of the OpenStreetMap 'Gallows Baai' label (17.47673,-62.98678); confirm the designated zone on your chart or with the Marine Park before dropping the hook. Noonsite (updated June 2025): anchoring behind the breakwater gives protection from a southerly swell with good holding in sand; all visiting yachts must anchor inside the zone designated on the Marine Park map; do not anchor within 30 m (100 ft) of any mooring or regulatory buoy; the tugs' mooring balls trail 20 m+ of floating line - take care, especially at night. Keep the harbour approach and pier face clear for ferries, workboats and tanker-service tugs. Same US$10 per night / US$30 per week Marine Park fee as the main anchorage, paid at the harbour on check-in (STENAPA). Call the Marine Park on VHF 17/16 if unsure where to anchor.
