Charlie Brown Wreck
17° 28.2′ N · 62° 59.7′ W · approximate
The Charles L. Brown, a former AT&T cable-laying ship about 100 m long, sunk as an artificial reef and now one of the best wreck dives in the Eastern Caribbean - with a 30 m swim-through, sharks, cubera snapper and a resident barracuda called 'Charlie'.
Practical
Approximate: estimated from the site's plotted position on the 2016 Statia Tourism dive map relative to Gallows Bay, Lower Town and the reserve markers (no published GPS position) - it lies off the southwest coast, south and west of Gallows Bay. Bottom 30-31 m (100-102 ft); the top is near 18 m (60 ft), so less experienced divers can stay high (Scubaqua). Advanced level; about 10-12 minutes by dive boat (Golden Rock). Only with a Statia dive centre; anchoring prohibited on dive sites. US$6 park dive fee.
