Booby Island

17° 13.6′ N · 62° 36.6′ W

A cone-shaped, one-hectare islet in the middle of the Narrows and the federation's main seabird colony - sooty and bridled terns, laughing gulls, roseate terns, brown noddies, red-billed tropicbirds and brown pelicans.

Practical

Coordinates from Wikipedia. Designated an Important Bird Area (the island and seas within 1 km) by BirdLife International; about 400-600 nesting pairs, nesting season from April or May to August-October. No landing place - the shore is all boulders and boats cannot dock; view from a boat and do not disturb nesting birds. The island is unlit - keep clear at night (ActiveCaptain). Fish pots are thick between Booby Island and Cow Rocks. An American student was bitten by a tiger shark while swimming off the island in 2021. Home of the annual Booby Island Regatta.
