Vonitsa Venetian Castle
38° 55.2′ N · 20° 53.1′ E
The large Byzantine and Venetian fortress on the hill above Vonitsa. It was the Despotate of Epirus's last stronghold before the Ottomans took it in 1479, and was held by Venice from 1684 to 1797.
Practical
History from Wikipedia. Noonsite says it is very overgrown and hard to explore, worthwhile mainly for enthusiasts or for the exercise and the view. Greek Wikipedia suggests walking out to Vonitsa's lighthouse for the best view of the castle. On 18 October 1862 the insurrection that led to King Otto's overthrow began in Vonitsa (Wikipedia).
